GEORGE TOWN: Come every Christmas, the Khors will have extra reason to celebrate.

Besides welcoming the yuletide season, four of their family members are also celebrating their birthdays then.

“This year, there is an extra reason for us to usher in Christmas as our eldest daughter Adele has graduated with a degree in psychology and communication on Dec 8,” said Adrian Khor, who is DHL Global Forwarding sales training regional head (Asia Pacific).

The 48-year-old father of two, who travels frequently due to his job, has just returned home from a one-week working trip to Pakistan just in time for the Christmas celebrations.

“Christmas is about the birth of Jesus Christ, family, friends and togetherness. Both sides of the family will always go that extra mile to make it an unforgettable time.”

Meanwhile, Adele said she felt “special” to be born on Dec 18, just a few days before Christmas.

Other family members whose birthday fall near Christmas include her sister Kelly, 16, on Dec 29, cousin Ashley Khor, 12, on Dec 11 and uncle Raymond Khor, 39, on Dec 6.

For Kelly, Christmas is the most wonderful time of the year.

Her mother Cynthia Ooi said the highlight of Christmas besides going for midnight mass on the eve of Christmas and the exchange of gifts was indulging in a family traditional dish called the mulligatawny soup.

“It is a curry-flavoured soup prepared with meat or chicken. This is a special Eurasian dish prepared by Adrian’s aunt, where the recipe was passed down by her mother.

“The whole tradition was started by Adrian’s late mother, Eleanor De Souza,” said the 48-year-old B. Braun human resource general manager.

About 60 relatives from as far as Australia will be joining the Khors for their Christmas celebration this year.
