PETALING JAYA: A Bangladeshi restaurant worker was sentenced to 29 years' jail and ordered to be whipped 16 times for raping and robbing a clerk April, last year.
Sessions Court judge Rozina Ayob jailed Buttu, 42, for 20 years and ordered him to be whipped 10 times for raping the 31-year-old clerk.
Judge Rozina also sentenced him to nine years' jail and ordered him to be canned six times for robbing the clerk of her handphone worth RM300 using a parang.
She handed down the decision after he pleaded guilty to the charges on Tuesday.
However, judge Rozina instructed the sentences to run concurrently from the date he was arrested on Oct 15, this year.
She made the rulings after considering that the victim was alone with her two small children and throughout the incident the accused had used a parang.
"I hope that you will be a good father to your daughter who is now in Bangladesh," she said.
Buttu had earlier claimed trial to the charges when he was first charged last month.
Buttu was charged with raping the woman in a premise at Jalan Klinik, Kampung Melayu Subang on Apr 19, last year at about 5.10am.
He was accused under Section 376(2)(b) of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum of 30 years' jail and whipping upon conviction.
Buttu was also accused of robbing the woman of her handphone using a parang at the same time and place.
To this charge, he was accused under Section 392 of the same act.
Deputy public prosecutor Dalira Ali said that the sentences against the accused should consider public interest.
DPP Dalira said the incident occured in the early hour of morning and there was a weapon used in the incident.
In asking for leniency, Buttu said he was 42 years old, his family and his daughter were in Bangladesh.
According to the facts of statement, the clerk was sleeping in her bedroom with her two children when suddenly she woke up and saw a man was in her room.
The man sat on top of her and was holding a parang and was pointing towards her abdomen.
