Indian music maestro Illayaraja, due to perform in KL, hospitalised after heart attack

PETALING JAYA: Just four days ahead of his concert here, renowned 1980s music director Illayaraja, 70, suffered a heart attack on Monday and is hospitalised in Chennai, according to the Times of India.

However, organisers of the King of Kings concert said in an immediate response that he was “doing well” and would be here to perform at the concert in Stadium Merdeka this Saturday.

Over 15,000 fans are expected to throng the venue for a four-hour concert by the acclaimed composer, singer and lyricist, jointly organised by My Events International and Mojo Resources.

My Events International group chief executive officer Shahul Hameed Shaikh Dawood had been quoted as saying that 15 artistes and film directors would also be gracing the event.

Illaiyaraja’s two sons - music directors Karthik Raja and Yuvan Shankar Raja - were also scheduled to take to the stage to perform some of their father’s greatest hits.
