KUALA LUMPUR: The closure of the waste transfer station at Taman Beringin, Jinjang due to a faulty waste incinerator, has resulted in about 2,000 tonnes of rubbish being dumped by the roadside of Middle Ring Road 2 ((MRR2) in Kepong on Saturday.

This resulted in traffic congestion, as well as foul smell, in the area, until workers from the Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) arrived to clear the rubbish and transferred it elsewhere.

DBKL director-general Datuk Salleh Yusop told Bernama that workers were sent to the area after DBKL was informed of the matter.

"DBKL will investigate the matter," he added.

He said some of the garbage contractors had dumped the rubbish after learning that the waste transfer station at Taman Beringin was closed.

Checks by Bernama in the area found about 500 metres of the MRR2 stretch were dumped with rubbish and the smell was unbearable.

Some business operators in the area closed their business today because they could not stand the smell.
