KUALA LUMPUR: Newly elected Wanita MCA chief Datuk Heng Seai Kie attributed the success of her team to the strong support for their manifesto.
“I am thankful to them for having faith in the plans we have laid out for the wing,” she told reporters after the announcement of the election results.
The manifesto by her team sought for the safeguarding of women’s rights, helping women to be more self-reliant by improving their financial standing, training more entrepreneurs and strengthening education and Chinese cultural values.
Despite a big win for her team, Heng only obtained 137 votes more than her opponent Tan Cheng Liang.
Commenting on the marginal difference, she said the votes might have been affected by factors such as candidates’ rapport with the local communities and factions in the party.
“Now that the elections are over, I will focus on reuniting Wanita MCA members at all levels.”
Newly elected vice-chairman Ong Chong Swen said she felt blessed with the support given to her.
Another vice-chairman winner, Johor Wanita chief Wong You Fong, said a big mandate had been given to her to help strengthen the Wanita team within the party.
Datuk Lim Bee Kau, who also won a vice-chairman seat, said she would not allow her health problem to prevent her from carrying out her tasks.
See Meng Geok, who is an executive director of a travel agency, attributed her victory for a vice-chairman post to teamwork and dedication displayed by all.
