Contractor fined for offering bribe

SHAH ALAM: A contractor was sentenced to a day in jail and fined RM10,000 for bribing a policeman who caught him and his girlfriend half naked in a car two years ago.

Sessions Court judge Asmadi Husin ordered R. Muthu Ganesan, 28, to serve another three months in jail if he failed to pay the fine.

Yesterday, Muthu Ganesan admitted to giving RM500 to Kons Ahmad Shuhaimi Mohamed Shahrim, 32, as an inducement for the officer not to take action against him and his 21-year-old girlfriend M. Lingeshwari.

The couple had violated Section 14 of the Penal Code for indecency in a public place.

Kons Ahmad Shuhaimi and a colleague were patrolling the area at 3.57am on Sept 25, 2011 when they noticed a car parked at Golden Palm Tree, Sepang Gold Coast at Pantai Bagan Lalang in Sepang with two half naked people in the back seat.

Muthu Ganesan asked the policemen to “settle” the matter and when asked what “settle” meant, he took out RM500 from his wallet and said: “Settle lah abang, RM500.”

Kons Ahmad Shuhaimi arrested Muthu Ganesan when he insisted on giving the bribe.
