Student fined over Nik Aziz car sticker

PETALING JAYA: A student’s car bearing a sticker of PAS spiritual leader Datuk Nik Aziz Nik Mat has cost its owner an extra fine on top of a ticket for illegal parking.

The incident was believed to have happened to a student from Universiti Teknologi MARA’s (UiTM) Sri Iskandar campus in Perak.

A UiTM student was summoned for parking in an illegal area and displaying a windshield sticker of Nik Aziz.

A picture of the clamped car and the ticket had made its rounds on social media after being posted on Nik Aziz’s Facebook page.

To date, it has garnered over 16,000 likes and over 2,000 shares since it was published yesterday.

Netizens mostly condemned university authorities for stifling the student’s right to political expression.

The offences listed on the summons reads “parking in an illegal area” and “using a sticker of Tuan Guru Nik Aziz – Politics/PAS”.

A source who requested anonymity said campus policy disallows university students from carrying political paraphernalia within the campus.

UiTM officials could not be contacted while other staff members refused comment.
