Robbery foiled after teen searched

IPOH: A knife was found in an arm sling worn by a teenager who was stopped by the police outside a convenience store in Bercham here.

Another boy with him was also questioned, leading the police to recover another knife along a five-foot way near the 7-11 store in Taman Desa Kenchana.

The police also found and seized three masks and a cap inside a sling bag belonging to one of the teenagers.

The two boys, a 15-year-old from Bercham Utara, and 19-year-old from Kampar confessed they were preparing to rob the store.

Ipoh OCPD Asst Comm Sum Chang Keong said policemen in a police patrol car saw the two teenagers acting suspiciously outside the store at about 2.30am yesterday.

On questioning, it was found the arm sling was just a guise to hide the knife.

“The boy who wore the cast sling was only pretending to have a broken arm,” ACP Sum told reporters.

“We brought them to the police station, where both confessed they were planning to rob the store,” he said.

ACP Sum said the police were running checks on the background of the two boys, who have both been remanded for further investigation.
