‘Morning monsters’ of Johor

NUSAJAYA: Call them the morning monsters – a robbery gang is preying on people who leave for work in the wee hours of the day.

Three gang members would drive around in a Proton Perdana at about 5am looking for victims around Nusajaya and Johor Baru.

“Once they spot a person leaving the gate open to go to work or to school, they would rush into the house with a parang and hold up the occupants.

“They will grab all they can before escaping within minutes,” Nusajaya OCPD Supt Noor Hashim Mohamad said.

He said two gang members, aged 28 and 30, were arrested during a raid in Bandar Selesa Jaya on Monday.

He added that police have seized an array of items from the suspects, who were nabbed under Ops Cantas.

Among the items seized include handbags, car keys, watches, mobile phones, a small packet of drugs, a camera and a laptop.

Supt Noor Hashim said the latest case involved a woman and her child who were waiting outside their home for a schoolbus at about 5am on Oct 19.

“The suspects held them up at knife point and ransacked the house before escaping with their belongings,” he said, adding that police were now looking for the mastermind who has been identified.

He advised the public to be always careful and not to leave their gates ajar and to call the police if they see people loitering in their neighbourhood.
