Security guard accidentally discharges pump gun

BALIK PULAU: A security guard has been detained after he accidentally fired a shot from his pump gun outside a pawnshop in Bayan Baru here.

Nobody was injured as the shell hit a water meter and water filter during the 9.30am incident.

It is learnt that the 58-year-old guard was removing the shell before he accidentally discharged the gun.

Police have seized the Hawk Arms pump gun.

Balik Pulau deputy OCPD Deputy Supt Lai Fah Hin said the guard had since been released on police bail.

This was the second incident in Penang this month.

On Dec 1, a security guard was detained for accidentally discharging his pump gun at a goldsmith shop in Penang Road.

No one was injured in the 11am incident.
