BUTTERWORTH: A man, who had been rounded up in an Ops Cantas operation, was charged with attempted murder in a Sessions Court here for slitting the neck of a police officer.
Abdul Manaf Jasin, 32, was alleged to have used a penknife against Kpl Khairil Anuar Zahari, 31, in an attempt to kill him, at about 12.30pm on Dec 7 at a house in Kampung Kepala Batas in Jalan Teluk Ipil Nibong Tebal.
The charge under Section 307 for attempted murder carries a jail term of 20 years.
The accused, who was not represented, merely laughed when the charge was read out to him on Monday.
Sessions judge Julie Lack ordered for him to undergo a one-month's observation at Hospital Bahagia in Tanjung Rambutan.
She fixed Jan 15 for mention. DPP Siti Aishah Ramlan prosecuted.
