GEORGE TOWN: Christmas came early for 170 children of single parents when they received vouchers for new school uniforms and met Santa Claus during a Christmas party.

Organised by the Family Hope Welfare Association (FHWA), the four-hour event featured a traditional Indian dance performance, sketches by children, singing and games.

“We organised this Christmas party so that the children could have a little bit of fun and receive their school uniforms,” said FHWA advisor Timothy Finian, adding that they spent RM10,500 on the event.

A total of 130 vouchers, each worth RM150, were given out to the children to buy school uniforms and school bags.

They also received Christmas gifts such as educational toys and materials, and stationary items.

The FHWA, which was established in 2009, also gave away 26 hampers to widows, single mothers, disabled people, as well as three orphanages – the Agape Home, St Joseph Home and Grace Home.

“Part of the work we do is provide food every month to widows, single mothers and the less fortunate.

“Other than rice and dry goods, we also give out wheelchairs and crutches to the disabled.

“We also work closely with the Social Security Organisation and the Social Welfare Department to purchase prosthetics for the needy,” he added.
