KUALA LUMPUR: The National Press Club Malaysia (NPC) and the ever popular blues rock band, Blues Gang, came together for the club's annual dinner and charity fundraising event in conjunction with the band's 40th anniversary in the industry on Saturday.
NPC president Mokhtar Hussein said they all gathered for a good cause and also to raise some money for the NPC Journalist Welfare Fund to help journalists and their family members in the event of death or being stricken by illness.
"We are optimistic that tonight's dinner will provide a big boost to raise the fund to about RM150,000 or even higher," he said at the dinner here.
The Journalist Welfare Fund was set up about a decade ago with money obtained entirely from the generous donation of corporate organisations, many of which were represented at the dinner.
At the event, Mokhtar also presented a RM2,000 cheque from the fund to Bernama International Desk Sub Editor Rosyatimah Tukimin, who is fighting cancer, while Malaysian Women Journalists Association (Pertama) president Muharyani Othman presented RM1,000.
Marking its fourth decade in the industry, Blues Gang truly took the diners down memory lane for a rocking good time. - Bernama
