Dr Mahathir reconsiders decision to quit Petronas

KUALA LUMPUR: Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad (pic) is rethinking his decision to quit as Petronas adviser.

The former prime minister is having second thoughts about quitting the post following Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak’s call to him to reconsider his decision.

“I will think about it. But I am old. Must slow down a bit lah,” he said.

Dr Mahathir recently announced that he had quit as Petronas adviser from Dec 1.

It is learnt that Dr Mahathir had tendered his resignation because his concerns over certain dealings were ignored.

Dr Mahathir also denied talk that he resigned in protest of his son not being appointed as the Umno Supreme Council member, pointing out that he did not even know if Datuk Paduka Mukhriz Mahathir was appointed or not.

“It is not for me to decide. It is up to the party president,” he said.

On Najib’s offer to join hands with Opposition parties, Dr Mahathir said it was good provided the other side was willing to reciprocate with goodwill.

Dr Mahathir also said that the overwhelming attendance at the assembly reflected the growing strength of Umno. Mukhriz, who is Kedah Umno chief, said he was appointed as a turut hadir (also present) MT member.
