Umno assembly: Anwar Ibrahim makes "appearance"

KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak hit out at Opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim for having misled the people over the issue of 40,000 phantom voters in the 13th general election.

The Umno president, during his opening speech at the general assembly, paused to show a video clip showing opposition leaders playing up the issue of Bangladeshis and Indonesians voting in the polls.

The one-minute video of news clips from various portals showed Anwar and other leaders claiming that some 40,000 phantom voters were flown in to the country "to cast their ballots."

Najib said: "During my official visit to Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh recently, I was tempted to tell them “Dhonnobad” or thank you in Bengali to their Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for lending many of her citizens as alleged by the opposition.

“Sheikh Hasina was shocked while denying that such a thing was not true at all,” Najib said.
