KUALA LUMPUR: Two foreigners and two local men have been arrested over the death of a 20-year-old man suspected of stealing from a mosque's donation box.

The foreigners, aged 19 and 20, and locals, aged 27 and 39, were picked up after they admitted to beating Shahreza Fauzi at 5am on Tuesday.

Police recovered a piece of wood believed to be used as a weapon.

Ampang Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Amiruddin Jamaluddin confirmed the case and said the deceased had put up a fight while trying to escape the security guards at the Al Azim mosque in Pandan Indah.

ACP Amiruddin said police arrived at the scene and arrested Shahreza and recovered a piece of wire from him.

They also detained the four men who admitted to assaulting Shahreza.

Shahreza was sent to the Ampang Hospital for treatment.

"He died around 11am after receiving treatment," said ACP Amiruddin in a statement.

A post mortem showed that death was due to blunt force trauma. Shahreza also sustained multiple injuries to his head, arms and body.

Police are investigating the case as murder.
