KUALA LUMPUR: Concerned about the plight of flood victims following the worsening situation in Pahang, Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak left the Umno general assembly in a rush to observe the situation in his homestate.
In his tweet, the Umno president said he would leave for Pekan, Rompin and Kuantan to look at the flood situation there.
"Pray that all is safe," he said.
Najib's press secretary, Datuk Akmar Hisham Mokhles, said the Prime Minister had to rush to Pahang immediately after delivering his policy speech at the Umno assembly at the Putra World Trade Centre (PWTC), here.
"He departed from Subang at noon and is expected to visit the family of the Pekan Umno division committee member, Jamali Jani, who is believed to have disappeared in the flood in Kuantan last night," Akmar Hisham told Bernama.
Jamali, 45, and his son, Megat Mohd Nazli Jamali, 17, are believed to have fallen into the water while they were in a boat at 7.30pm at Kampung Sungai Isap, Kuantan.
The flood in Pahang killed Mohamed Alif Khalid, 21, who drowned Wednesday afternoon in Sungai Kampung Sepial, Kuala Tembeling, Jerantut.
The number of flood victims evacuated to relief centres in Pahang up to this morning stood at 38,323 people from 9,153 families.
