KUALA LUMPUR: The Sunday rest day ruling was first announced by then Johor Mentri Besar Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin on Nov 8, 1993.
Muhyiddin was quoted in The Star then as saying the state would adopt the Sunday weekend for both the public and private sectors, signalling an end to the Friday rest day for government departments after more than 20 years.
