Semporna kidnap: Taiwanese family to take one step at a time

TAWAU: The family of the Taiwanese couple who were killed and abducted from the Pom Pom Island Resort want to take things one step at a time.

Richard Chang, elder brother of the abducted 58-year-old Chang An Wei who is now believed in the hands of Filipino gunmen, said their main focus is to arrange his brother-in-law Hsu Li Min's (who was shot dead) cremation.

"Our main focus is the funeral and all, we want to do things one step at a time and not rush," he said.

Without directly referring to a statement from Taiwanese authorities that a phone call has been received asking for a ransom, Richard said they would not rush in making any decision to avoid opportunists.

"We know there will be opportunists and if we want to rush things here, we are bound to be cheated by opportunists," he said.

On Nov 15, Hsu was shot dead at the island resort while Chang was abducted.

Chang is now believed to be held captive in one of the islands in Tawi Tawi by Abu Sayyaf-linked gunmen who live on ransom-for-money activities.
