YAN: Barisan Nasional stands a bright chance to win the Sungai Limau state seat, said Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.
He said even PAS had admitted that their majority could be reduced from 2774 previously to 500.
He said perhaps the Opposition was using psychology to attract sympathy votes.
“However, though this constituency is regarded as PAS stronghold, the fort is not that strong.
“I went to the blackest area in Bukit Choras and Matang Buluh, and find even those areas were shining so bright (meaning the chances for Barisan to win is bright),” he said when opening Pasar Tani Sungai Limau Dalam on Sunday.
Matang Buluh is the only polling district that was never won by Barisan since 1959.
Muhyiddin said measures had been taken to improve farming, fisheries and livestock sector, as food security was part of the main national agenda.
Pasar Tani nationwide had attracted revenue amounting to more than RM500mil.
He said the Government was devising strategies to ensure farmers and fisher folk were no longer regarded as poor folk with low earning power.
“The role of farmers have become more important,” he said, adding farming is an important sector even in advanced nation like Japan.
Kedah Mentri Besar Datuk Paduka Mukriz Mahathir said Pasar Tani in Kedah attracted RM48.8mil in sales revenue up till January this year.
There are 25 Pasar Tani with 1,448 participants in Kedah.
The Kedah government also provides incentive for the fisheries sector to attract the younger generation.
Agriculture and Agro Industries Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said an Agro Bazaar would be set up soon in Singapore to market fresh farm produce from Malaysia.
“We plan to expand the Agro Bazaar to Hong Kong, Australia, and Middle East, among others,” he said.
