KOTA KINABALU: Police have managed to round up all 14 youths who escaped from the Henry Gurney School in the interior Keningau district two weeks ago.
Keningau police Deputy Supt Robert Salisip said on Sunday the last youth, aged 15, who had fled from the juvenile detention centre was at a village in nearby Bingkor on Nov 1.
He said police had picked another two youths aged 19 and 15 at two separate villages also in Bingkor on Oct 31.
Robert said two of the youths who had escaped from the school had managed to flee all the way to the northern Kota Belud district, about 180km away, after stealing a motorcycle.
The youths had escaped from the Henry Gurney School on Oct 20 by prying open metal bars with mop sticks and climbing over two layers of barbed wire fences by lining them with blankets.
Three of the youths were immediately detained by police in Keningau on the same day.
Two of the youths were detained with the help of the public and close collaboration between district police headquarters and the General Operations Force, Robert added.
