YAN: Barisan Nasional has lodged a police report over mannequins with one limb cut off that were placed near several BN operation centres here on Saturday.
Jerai Umno chief Datuk Seri Jamil Khir Baharom, who is also Minister in the Prime Minister's Department, said the legs were found hanging from road signs and traffic lights near BN tents in Bukit Besar, Titi Batu and Simpang Tiga in Sungai Limau Luar at around noon Saturday.
"I'm so disappointed with the provocation made by certain irresponsible quarters. This is truly uncalled for," he said at a press conference at the BN operation room in Sungai Limau Dalam.
It is learnt that the mannequin legs, which depicted a human figure from waist down with one of the legs cut off, had the words 'kaki ustaz' (ustaz's legs) scrawled on them, implying the condition of the late former Sungai Limau assemblyman Tan Sri Azizan Abdul Razak, whose legs were amputated due to diabetes.
Jamil Khir said BN would now leave it to the police to carry out further investigations bring the culprit to justice.
He also dismissed the allegation that it was an act of sabotage by BN members.
Jamil Khir also called on the voters to be wary of other forms of provocation as the Sungai Limau state by-election drew nearer.
Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Mukhriz Tun Dr Mahathir, who is also Kedah BN chairman, said BN members would never resort to doing such things, which would only cause anger among the people in Sungai Limau.
He said BN had established a good relationship with Azizan long before he became Kedah Menteri Besar, and the relationship had continued during his tenure.
"He was respected by both his friends and his enemies. Because of that, BN will never do anything that will hurt the feelings of those who loved him.
"Those who put up the mannequin legs were probably trying to make people furious and hate BN. Of course we didn't do it. Why would we want to mess with the people here?
"I really hope that the voters in Sungai Limau will not be fooled by this dirty tactic," he said.
The by-election, scheduled for Nov 4 will be a straight fight between BN's candidate Dr Ahmad Sohaimi Lazim and PAS candidate Mohd Azam Abdul Samat.
The state seat was announced vacant following the death of Azizan on Sept 26. - Bernama
