KUALA LUMPUR: The mastermind behind Arab Malaysian Banking Group founder Hussain Ahmad Najadi’s murder has fled to China.
Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar said the latest intelligence reports indicated that the fugitive had left Australia and was currently hiding in China.
“We are communicating with our Chinese counterparts to help us track him down,” he said during a press conference at Hospital Kuala Lumpur yesterday.
Khalid was there to visit a policeman, who was injured while trying to apprehend a suspected drug addict.
Initial investigations revealed that Koong Swee Kwan, 44, also known as sei ngan chai (four-eyed guy in Cantonese), was a close friend of the suspect and worked for him.
Najadi, 75, was gunned down in front of the Kuan Yin Temple in Lorong Ceylon on July 29 after a meeting over a land deal worth RM40mil. His wife was wounded.
The temple occupies a portion of the land that was being negotiated for sale.
Najadi was neither a buyer nor a seller but was there to ensure the temple would not be sold or demolished.
