KAJANG: Angered that his love had been rejected, a 25-year-old hospital employee set fire to the house of his ex-girlfriend’s brother in Bangi.
The man later surrendered at the Tun H.S. Lee police station, said Kajang OCPD Asst Comm Abdul Rashid Abdul Wahab.
He said the woman, 28, received a call from the suspect at 2.30am yesterday asking her to check on her brother’s home in Bangi.
“The woman then called the Bangi police station. She was later informed that the house was on fire,” he said.
Initial investigations showed that 30% of the front part of the double-storey terrace house had been damaged.
“A Nissan Vanette van belonging to the woman’s father and a Naza Blade motorcycle belonging to her younger brother were also damaged,” ACP Abdul Rashid said.
He added that there were no casualties because the house was vacant as it belonged to the woman’s brother who is working overseas.
The suspect, who is believed to have used petrol to set fire to the house, was upset after the woman told him she wanted to break up their relationship because her parents did not approve.
ACP Abdul Rashid added that the suspect recently set fire to a car that belonged to the woman’s father at the Sri Alam flats in Jalan Sungai Besi, also for the same reason.
