Police on guard in Kg Hakka.
SEREMBAN: Police arrested several DAP members, including Seremban MP Anthony Loke, for obstructing a developer from demolishing houses at Kg Hakka in Mantin near here on Thursday.
They were detained for refusing to obey police officers who ordered them to disperse and for barring workers from bringing in heavy machinery to the site.
Others arrested were Rasah MP Teo Kok Seong, assemblymen Chew Seh Yong (Bahau), Ng Chin Tsai (Temiang), P.Gunasekaren (Senawang), J. Arul Kumar (Nilai) as well as several residents and social activists.
They were taken to the Mantin police station to have their statements recorded.
Last Thursday, the High Court here had refused to grant a stay order following an appeal filed by the residents not to have their homes demolished.
The residents, who had been ordered to vacate the area by the same court on Aug 26, were told by judge Datuk Siti Mariah Ahmad that the court did not see any reason to grant a stay order.
The dispute between the former residents and the developer began in 2011 after they were ordered to vacate the area.
It is learnt that some 50 families had since accepted compensation from the developer while some 40 others had decided to stay put.
