Take our poll and share your thoughts with us
“All the world is made of faith, and trust, and pixie dust,” Peter Pan author, J.M. Barrie wrote.
While trusting magical strangers to bring you on unknown adventures makes for good fiction, in real life, people are understandably more weary of whom they rely on.
But humans are social creatures, as Aristotle would have you believe, and a life without trusting another is impossible.
In building relationships with your family, significant other, friends or colleagues, trust is an essential ingredient. Humans create a connection when they share a secret, in letting their guards down to accept another.
The olive branch of trust signifies giving up a bit of yourself, exposing your vulnerabilities to another in the hope that they guard that trust that you so hold dear.
Because, let’s face it. You have more to lose if your trustee decides to go rogue. Yet, that faith in another is needed to create an initial bond between two people.
Trust is difficult because you are relying on the integrity of another; an integrity, which you can only hope, is unwavered.
In a fast-paced dog eat dog world, putting belief in someone else could very well lead to your downfall, as many politicians, businessmen and assorted victims of fraud and blackmail would testify.
It has come to the point that people are beginning to put more trust in their pets than in their friends and family. The fact is that in the eyes of many, Lassie and Furball command more trust than another human being.
But are these just our cynical perceptions? Are there still many souls out there who are venerable custodians of confidence?
The Star Online is curious to know who is the most trustworthy person in YOUR life.
The poll result will be published in The Star's Metro Central and Metro Online Broadcast, www.mob.com.my, on Friday (Nov 1).
