YAN: The appearance of artiste Abby Abadi added excitement to the otherwise dull campaign in the run up to the Sungai Limau polls.
When Abby went up the makeshift stage on board a lorry to deliver her speech, some in the crowd appeared to be smitten by her beauty.
“Segak segak masuk PAS (So pretty, join PAS),” shouted a man among the small crowd at the PAS ceramah in Dulang Kecil here on Saturday night.
And her scathing remarks against Barisan Nasional had some in the crowd going “mmmmm” in agreement.
“It is a sin to choose the wrong government,” said the actress who is on a two-day campaign trail to assist PAS candidate Mohd Azam Abd Samad. He is squaring off against Barisan’s Dr Ahmad Sohaimi Lazim.
Calling on the electorate to choose a good candidate, Abby claimed that PAS was the only party that fought for the religion.
“If they (Barisan) give money, take, if they give sarong, wear. But vote according to Islam.
“We are nothing without Islam,” said 36-year-old Abby who recently married 24-year-old Muhamad Noor Farhan Che Bakar.
“They (Barisan) claim to practise democracy. But when people join PAS, they treat us like the enemy,” she said.
Initially, Abby did not want to join PAS because she thought it was a deviant party, going by how mainstream media portrayed PAS spiritual leader Datuk Nik Aziz Nik Mat.
“Now, they are linking PAS to (deviant) Syiah. When we try to invite artistes to follow the religious path, they make it look as if we are the ones in the wrong,” she said.
