Datuk Mukhriz Mahathir
YAN: Datuk Mukhriz Mahathir said Sungai Limau is not about rating his popularity although PAS campaigners were attacking his credibility and discrediting him as a loser in the just-concluded Umno polls.
The Kedah Mentri Besar said the candidates in the Umno election had put the party polls behind them and all Umno campaigners were now going all-out to gain victory for Barisan Nasional candidate Dr Ahmad Sohaimi Lazim in the by-election.
Furthermore, said Mukhriz, he had solid support from all 15 Umno divisions in Kedah and the question of his popularity, therefore, did not arise.
“I wonder if they (PAS party workers) are campaigning for this by-election or for their party election,” he said, referring to the PAS internal polls that would be held next month.
Dr Ahmad Sohaimi, 52, is challenging PAS’ Mohd Azam Abd Samat, 37. The by-election follows the death of former Kedah mentri besar Tan Sri Azizan Abdul Razak on Sept 26.
Umno-PAS merger still on the cards
