Two traders detained for hiding sugar in Putrajaya

YAN: The Domestic Trade, Cooperative and Consumerism Ministry enforcement team has detained two traders Friday night for hiding sugar in their premises in Putrajaya.

Minister Datuk Hasan Malek said action had also been taken against them under the Price Control and Anti-Profiteering Act 2011.

"Sugar is still one of the controlled items and we will not hesitate to take action against those who try to raise the price of sugar at their whims and fancies," he told reporters during the "Jom Check Motor" programme at Taman Mahsuri, Sungai Limau Dalam near here Saturday.

Hasan said the operators were obviously trying to take advantage of the Government's decision to abolish the sugar subsidy to make a quick profit.

The price of sugar has been increased by 34 sen per kilogramme effective Saturday. - Bernama
