KLANG: First-time housebuyers are hoping the Government will do something about the ever-rising property prices which they say have gone way beyond their means.
Varman Raj, 28, said buying a home to live in had apparently become a luxury these days.
“Some buy properties as if they are being sold in garage sales but I believe those who do so are from the high-income group.
“But for middle-income earners like me, it is almost impossible to own a house near my work place in Kuala Lumpur,” the engineer said.
He hopes this issue would be addressed in the Budget 2014.
Khairul Maslan, 34, said it had become impossible for Malaysians earning RM3,000 a month to own a home in the urban areas of the Klang Valley.
“Even if we have the 10% downpayment to buy a home worth RM400,000, banks will not give us a loan to buy a house as our earnings of RM3,000 a month is simply not enough for us to qualify for the loan repayment scheme,” the customer service executive said.
IT specialist Elvin Toh, 30, said he was desperate to get a landed property for not more than RM350,000 in the Klang Valley but could not find one that was not too far from his present home and within the price range which he could afford.
“Everything I saw was more than RM600,000. I hope that through PR1MA (Perumahan Rakyat 1Malaysia), the Government will build more affordable homes for urbanites in the upcoming budget,” he said.
PR1MA recently approved 20,000 homes under 15 affordable housing projects for development in Greater Klang Valley, Johor, Penang, Sabah and Sarawak.
The houses are priced below RM350,000.
Work on three of the projects have started.
