KUALA LUMPUR: Noreen Noor, singer and actress of the 80's era, died at the Ampang Puteri Hospital, Ampang here from complications of the heart and kidney Tuesday. She was 54.
Persatuan Seniman Malaysia president Rozaidi Abd Jamil or Zed Zaidi confirmed the matter when contacted by Bernama.
"The late actress died at about 5am and her body will be laid to rest at her hometown at Km16, Kampung Pulai, Malacca.
"Her body has been claimed by her family at about 9.30am," he said.
Noreen or her real name Noraine Mohd Nor, became popular through the song 'Siang Terbayang Malam Merindu.' She has a 22-year-old son and an 11-year-old daughter.
Noreen was born in Singapore, according to wikipedia, and educated in Malacca.
She won her first singing competition when she was five.
She also won another singing competition after that, while she was an employee at Tenaga Nasional Bhd.
Her first album, titled Kepastian, was produced by Columbia Broadcast System.
She shot to stardom with the song Siang Terbayang Malam Merindu. Her other albums were Dariku Untukmu, Air Mata and Sunyi.
Noreen’s first foray into acting was in the film Talak in 1980. Other local films she starred in were Hantu Siang, Wira Angkasa dan Pelumba Malam.
