PUTRAJAYA: Over 20,000 illegal immigrants, whose employers had registered them under the 6P amnesty programme but were cheated by agents or middlemen, are expected to undergo new registration.

Home Ministry deputy secretary-general (operations) Datuk Wahab Mohd Yassin said the figure of 20,000 was based on records of employer complaints received by the ministry, with a possibility that the actual number of cases could be higher.

The new registration will be carried out at the One Stop Centre (OSC), Level 4, Block D9, Complex D, Federal Government Administrative Centre here on Monday.

The process comes under the Special Programme of Managing Illegal Immigrants (PKPP) as announced by the Special Cabinet Committee on Foreign Workers and Illegal Immigrants on Oct 2.

Wahab urged employers could go personally to the OSC and lodge police reports for the period between Sept 1, 2011 until Sept 10, this year.

"Our service counters will not entertain employers who used agents or middlemen with copies of police reports exceeding that period," Wahab told reporters on Saturday.

He said the programme would be carried out for just three months, from Oct 21 to Jan 20, after which appeals would not be entertained.
