BALIK PULAU: Three foreigners were separately charged with drug trafficking in a magistrate's court here.
Derrick Randell, 63, from South Africa, was charged with trafficking in 4,440gm of methamphetamine at 10.20am on Oct 5 at the Penang International Airport.
A Malawian 17-year-old girl was charged with trafficking in 4,311gm of the drug at about 10.30am on the same date at the airport's international arrival hall.
Meanwhile, Sangeeta Sharma Brahmacharimayum, 38, from India, was charged with trafficking in 3,100gm of methamphetamine at about 10am on Oct 7 at the airport's domestic arrival hall.
The offences under Section 39B (1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 carry the mandatory death sentence.
No plea was recorded.
The Customs Department's prosecuting officer Muhd Ridhauddin Jamaluddin prosecuted in Randell's case. DPP Charanjit Singh Mahinder Singh prosecuted in both the women's cases.
All three were not represented by counsel on Friday.
Magistrate Muhammad Najib Ismail fixed Dec 17 for mention. Bail was rejected.
