KUALA LUMPUR: In two incidents involving wayward sons who went berserk, a father was stabbed to death here and a mother in Johor was threatened with a parang.
A 26-year-old jobless man went amok and stabbed his 70-year-old father to death after the elderly man allegedly refused to give him money to buy drugs.
The incident occurred at their home at the Sri Melaka flats in Cheras here at about 2.30am yesterday.
It is learnt that they had earlier gotten into a heated argument when the father refused to give the son any money.
City CID chief Senior Asst Comm Datuk Ku Chin Wah said neighbours found the victim with stab wounds after they rushed to the house on hearing screams coming from there.
SAC Ku said the victim, who was sent to the Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia Hospital, died about six hours later.
In Labis, Johor, a 30-year-old odd job worker threatened his mother with a parang after she refused to give him money for gambling.
The 50-year-old woman, who declined to be named, said her son had been a compulsive gambler for the past six years.
“He would usually flare up in rage when I refuse to lend him money,” she told reporters yesterday.
Relating the incident, the housewife said her son had barged into her house in Labis at around 2pm on Wednesday.
He asked for money and a heated argument followed.
“I was shocked when he suddenly pulled out a parang and pointed it at me,” she said.
She told him that she would go immediately to a bank and withdraw some money. Instead, she rushed to a relative’s house nearby and hid there.
The relative later persuaded the woman to lodge a police report.
The suspect has been arrested and remanded till Oct 20.
Segamat OCPD Supt Mohd Kamil Sukarmi said the police were investigating the case under Section 506 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation.
