Deputy Education Minister P. Kamalanathan
KUALA LUMPUR: Deputy Education Minister P. Kamalanathan received a death threat ahead of a visit to a paper factory in Hulu Selangor on Wednesday morning.
The SMS received on his phone read: Encik Kamalanathan saya tahu you mau datang kilang kertas, rasa you jangan datang nanti you balik you akan mati. (Mr Kamalanathan I know you are coming to the paper factory. You’d better not or you’ll die when you go back.)
Kamalanathan, who is Hulu Selangor MP, said he received the message just before he went to the factory at around 8.10am on Wednesday.
“I tried calling the number as soon as I got the message but no one answered my calls. Since I had already given my word to visit the factory, I just went ahead with the visit,” he said yesterday.
He lodged a police report at the Bukit Sentosa police station on Wednesday.
Kamalanathan explained he had made regular visits to factories and businesses in his constituency to see how they were doing and to give suggestions on improvements.
Hulu Selangor deputy OCPD Supt Zulkifli Bedin said police were tracing who the mobile phone number belonged to.
