KUALA LUMPUR: MCA Youth chief Datuk Dr Wee Ka Siong (pic) has announced that he will not contest whichever post Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai is standing for in the party polls.
He also said that he would be voting against the resolution to censure Liow, who is deputy president, in the MCA extraordinary general meeting (EGM) on Sunday.
Dr Wee said Liow, who had announced his intention to contest the MCA president post, was a good friend.
"It is unfair to blame Liow solely for the party’s loss in the 13th general election," he told a press conference at Wisma MCA here Wednesday.
Quashing claims that he had betrayed Liow, Dr Wee said the character assassination in the party recently was unbecoming and pushing for a vote of no-confidence for any leader will only weaken the party.
He also said he will seriously consider refraining from contesting any party position if MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek chooses to go back on his word and seek re-election.
He said this was because it would affect the party's integrity and accountability.
"I am a team player. If I need to sacrifice for the party unity, I will do it, " he said.
Twenty MCA central committee members had proposed for an EGM to be held to censure Liow for various reasons, including his refusal to accept and respect the party's collective decisions, and failing in his duty as chairman of the general election preparation committee.
