KUALA LUMPUR: Padang Serai MP N.Surendran has completed his bulletproof vest fitting session and jokingly said he required "L"-sized body armour when when he accompanies police on a yet-to-be-determined undercover operation.
"The vest is heavy and I'm pretty impressed with the police officers who are able to manoeuvre with it. The weight of the vest is 6kg and it is made out of ceramic palettes," said Surendran.
The police will be providing him a level 3A bulletproof vest, which is typically worn by police officers during operations.
The level 3A vest will only stop a .38 or 9mm bullet.
"The vest can't stop a bullet from a M16 rifle or a pump gun," he said.
Surendran and his lawyer, Sivarasa Rasiah, also discussed the indemnity details with Bukit Aman Deputy CID chief Datuk Mazlan Mansor and officers from the legal department.
"The discussion was useful for us. We're hearing the details of the indemnity for the first time," said Sivarasa, who is also Subang MP.
According to Sivarasa, PDRM highlighted ten points Surendran would have to agree to, and that he would be going on the operation completely at his own risk.
"He is going to be treated as a participant under their terms and not as an observer.
"They're not going to provide him with a firearm because he doesn't have the license to hold one," said Sivarasa.
According to the indemnity details, Surendran will have to travel with the police, and will not be liable for any untoward incidents.
"He has to sign an agreement which says that he will not be making any claim on PDRM and the Government of Malaysia," he said.
Sivarasa added that the details are up for discussion and that PKR leaders will be discussing it as quickly as possible before reverting to the police.
If Surendran agrees with deal, he will be on standby to participate in the police raid.
"It might be anytime. I don't know when the operation is going to happen." he said, adding that for security reasons, details of the raid could not be released in advance.
Sivarasa said he believed Surendran should not go for the operation.
