MALACCA: The state government is about to create a first in using electric vehicles for all its state department and agencies.
Chief Minister Datuk Seri Idris Haron said the EVs would be procured in stages until the whole state government's fleet of vehicles are converted into electric-powered cars.
“I am implementing a "soft" policy whereby departmental heads look into replacing their cars with EVs and eventually I do the same the for the Exco cars once all the mechanisms are in place.
“EVs are the future official cars for Malacca and we would be left behind if there is no long term plan to convert
into more environmental friendly vehicles,” he said.
Idris said the conversion to EVs is also synonymous with Malacca’s status as a “Green Technology’ state.
On Saturday, Idris launched the pioneer recharging station at Hatten Hotel here.
