Umno polls: Over half of Sabah Youth and Puteri wings to see change in division leadership

KOTA KINABALU: More than half of Sabah Umno’s Youth and Puteri wings are seeing a change of guard in their top divisional leadership.

New faces were heading the Youth and Puteri Wings at 15 of the 25 party divisions in the state following party polls on Saturday.

Changes have also taken place for the top Wanita post in nine divisions, Sabah Umno election committee chairman Datuk Nurnikman Abdullah said.

Nurnikman said most of the changes occurred in both movements because of the age factor as many incumbents were over the 35 year age limit for Puteri and 40 year age limit for Youth.

Among the new faces in the Sabah Umno Youth divisional leader line-up was Kimanis Umno’s Ahmad Firdauss Anifah, the son of division chief Datuk Anifah Aman who is also Foreign Minister.

Umno Youth deputy chief Jamawi Jaafar was kept as the Tenom Umno Youth chief  and so was his Sipitang counterpart Yamani Hafez Musa, the son of Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman.

Other new faces in the Sabah Umno Youth divisional leaders include Sandakan’s Fakarudin Ampong, the son of veteran Sabah politician Datuk Ampong Puyon.

Over at the Wanita wing, state Community Development and Consumer Affairs Minister Datuk Jainab Ahmad was returned as the movement’s chief at the Sepanggar division.

Sabah Umno Wanita chief Datuk Armani Mahiruddin was also retained as Libaran Umno Wanita chief.

Meanwhile, Nurnikman said the state Umno liaison office here had not received the officials results for the Wanita polls in Silam and Semporna as well as outcome for the Youth polls in Beluran division.

Sabah Umno executive secretary Datuk Kadzim Yahya said the state liaison office was getting feedback and reports on the party polls from all 25 divisions to further improve the election process on Oct 19 for the party’s top posts.

“There were some teething problems and so we will have to make the necessary adjustments such as how the polling booths should be arranged,” he explained.

An estimated 25,000 party delegates would be casting their ballots for various top posts including vice president, supreme council and division chiefs on Saturday.
