SERDANG: Former Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) vice-chancellor Prof Datuk Radin Umar Radin Sohadi died at the Serdang Hospital here Sunday. He was 53.
He said his father had also undergone treatment for cancer at the Kuala Lumpur and Selayang hospitals since 2010 and was only discharged from the Serdang Hospital several weeks ago.
Radin Umar, who was appointed as the first director-general of the Malaysian Institute of Road Safety Research (Miros) in 2007, resigned as UPM vice-chancellor in December 2012 due to poor health.
He had received the Prince Michael International Road Safety Award in 2005 for his contribution to and innovation in road safety development.
Radin Umar was buried at the Muslim cemetery near the UPM Mosque at 11 am Sunday. He leaves behind his wife and five children. -Bernama
