The “fender-bender” gang, known to be behind over 30 car theft and robbery cases in Selangor this year, is still out there.
“The gang would ram their stolen car into luxury vehicles to cause a minor accident and would hijack the car after the driver stops to settle the matter,” said Selangor police chief Senior Deputy Comm Datuk Mohd Shukri Dahlan (pix).
Police believed the gang members used a Proton Waja to commit the crime.
“We advise the public to drive straight to the police station or contact us if they encounter such an incident,” he told a press conference Tuesday.
“Don’t stop your vehicle to settle the accident,” he added.
Mohd Shukri revealed that the gang of seven men had been on the loose since 2005.
“They have been apprehended before but they went back to crime when they were out on bail,” he said.
“Since then, they have been on the loose,” said Mohd Shukri. “We will use all our resources to track them down,” he said, adding that the same gang was also active in Kuala Lumpur.
It was earlier reported that the Kuala Lumpur police were also after a gang responsible for 37 vehicle theft and robbery cases this year.
City police chief Senior Deputy Comm Datuk Mohmad Salleh said the gang would rob the victims before escaping with their vehicles.
