TAIPING: Police have arrested an unemployed man who is believed to have committed a spate of snatch thefts here.
Taiping OCPD Asst Comm Yusuf Mohd Diah said that with the arrest of the 39-year-old man, the police believe they had solved at least 15 snatch theft cases here.
“We received intelligence reports of the man’s whereabouts and staked out a house in Kampung Boyan here on Sept 26.
“At about 3.45pm, we surrounded the house and called out to the man to open the door.
“The man tried to hide when we moved in but we arrested him,” ACP Yusuf told journalists yesterday.
He added that initial investigations showed that the man was under police supervision for two years for drug-related offences and had failed to report himself for about four days.
“The man confessed to being involved in at least 10 snatch theft cases here and we believe there could be more,” he said.
ACP Yusuf said the man, who also tested positive for methamphetamine and morphine, would be investigated under Section 379 of the Penal Code for theft.
