DATUK Bung Mokhtar Radin (BN-Kinabatangan), who revealed that he carries a handgun, said he would rather die in a shootout than be shot dead unarmed.
He added that he had to have a weapon due to his worries about escalating crimes in the country.
The MP welcomed the preventive measures brought in the amendments in the Prevention of Crime Act (PCA), which he said would clamp down on organised criminal groups and the rising cases of pre-meditated murders.
“I did not carry my handgun around before this because it’s too heavy. But now, I have to carry one as I am afraid of the crime happening around us.
‘We all know that pre-meditated murders and armed robberies are on the rise,” he said in debating the amendments.
