KOTA KINABALU: Thirty-seven years ago, soldier Chumati Sastero’s life changed forever when an explosion blew his left leg to bits and blinded his left eye.
The native of Kampung Kenangan in the southwest Sabah district of Papar had stepped on a mine while on patrol at Gunung Inas in Kulim, Kedah, with fellow soldiers of the army’s Ranger Corps on Oct 4, 1976. It was a trap set up by communist insurgents.
