Solid backing: The MCA divisions in Kedah want Chua to defend his post.
ALOR SETAR: Fourteen out of 15 MCA divisions in Kedah have urged party president Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek to defend his post at the party elections in December.
Alor Setar division chairman Datuk Chong Itt Chew, who is the spokesman, said their consensus was that the party still needed Dr Chua’s leadership.
“We are confident that Dr Chua can continue to lead MCA better than any other leader,” he said after chairing a meeting attended by 12 out of the 14 chairmen here yesterday.
To date, a total of 69 divisions from four states have openly voiced their support for Dr Chua to continue helming the party.
Besides Kedah, the other divisions are 15 from Selangor, 19 from Johor and 21 from Perak. There are 191 divisions in the party nationwide.
Meanwhile, Chong said Merbuk division chairman Datuk Ang Poon Khim and Langkawi division chairman Datuk Chin Liew Weng could not make it for the meeting.
“Both leaders have contacted me and conveyed their stand to follow the consensus by the 12 other chairmen,” Chong, also Kedah MCA chairman, said.
He said Kubang Pasu chairman Datuk Lim Lai Huat, who was overseas, was not contactable.
