ALOR SETAR: Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital deputy director (medical) Dr Noor Zaini Morad said former Kedah Mentri Besar Tan Sri Azizan Abdul Razak died due to blood infection and multiple organ failure.
She said Azizan, 69, passed away at 11.05am on Thursday.
Dr Noor Zaini said Azizan's condition worsened on Wednesday morning after he suffered heart failure.
"He suffered heart arrest but we were able to stabilise him. The blood infection was not solely from his amputated legs, but also due to his weakened immune system," he said.
She said Azizan was stable when he was first transferred to the hospital last month, but his condition worsened due to various health complications.
"Azizan had end-stage renal failure and also problems with his heart and eyes. We provided him with the best treatment but his antibodies were already weak," she said.
Meanwhile, PAS secretary-general Datuk Mustapa Ali, when met, said Azizan's death was a loss to the party and also to him personally.
