GEORGE TOWN: A mob of at least 15 schoolboys beat up a Form Three prefect in their school compound in Sungai Nibong, near here.
The victim suffered an eye injury in the incident at noon on Tuesday.
The 15-year-old boy is said to have earlier advised two Form Five students to put on their ties properly.
The two older students reacted by slapping the victim.
Others, said to be friends of the bullies, joined in the attack at a staircase in one of the school buildings before fleeing.
A teacher, who saw the injured student, alerted his mother and he was promptly taken to the Penang Hospital, where he received outpatient treatment.
The victim’s father lodged a police report on the attack.
George Town OCPD Asst Comm Gan Kong Meng said the police had since recorded statements from nine witnesses.
“We have also recorded statements from three suspects who are now on police bail,” he said, adding that the police also met the parents of those involved as well as representatives from the school.
