PETALING JAYA: A huge fountain of water at least 10m high transfixed motorists along the Sprint Highway near the Damansara toll plaza as they slowed down to take a look.
The torrent of water spurting up in the air could be seen from 100m away and policemen were spotted at the scene at about 11am yesterday.
When contacted, Syabas’ corporate communication and public affairs assistant general manager Priscilla Alfred said the leak was from a broken valve, adding that it affected several areas including PJ North, Damansara and SS26.
“Our contractors have repaired the leak. The water supply has been restored,” she told The Star.
A spokesman from the Selangor Fire and Rescue Department confirmed the incident.
Several people tweeted about the incident, with Twitter user @chewmeiling attaching a picture of the incident while posting: “water pipe burst at Damansara.”
Another motorist, who wanted to be known as Ooi, uploaded a photo on his Facebook account and commented: “Since 9am n [sic] at 2pm still like that, so much water wasted.”
Motorcyclist David Wong, 27, said the huge amount of water looked like something out of a movie.
Other motorists hoped that the authorities would fix the pipe quickly.
