BANGKOK: A former Thai military commander on Friday paid his last respects to Chin Peng at Wat That Thong temple where the wake is being held.
General Pisarn Wattanawongkiri, reported to be the contact man between the former Communist Party of Malaya secretary-general and the authorities, sprinkled scented water on Chin Peng's coffin and offered prayers.
About 30 people, comprising family members and well-wishers including his former comrades, were present in the temple.
Buddhist monks would be conducting prayers and funeral rites until the cremation on Monday evening.
