SHAH ALAM: Selangor PAS has unanimously agreed that there should be a review of ties between PAS and PKR.
“The review of ties, as recently mentioned by the party’s ulama chief Datuk Harun Taib, did not mean PAS was looking for a way out from the coalition,” said Selangor PAS commissioner Dr Abdul Rani Osman.
“Selangor PAS is confident that the main reason for the review (of ties) is to make better something that is already good.
“We want the people to see Pakatan Rakyat as a coalition of a government that can (someday) govern the country and not just a coalition of three parties.”
He told reporters this yesterday in a press conference together with Selangor PAS deputy chief Khalid Samad.
Asked if the purpose of the review of ties was made due to weakness in the partnership, Khalid reiterated Dr Rani’s statement that the review was to strengthen ties and to defeat Barisan Nasional in the next general election.
“This review, which we would like to call a strategy, cannot be exposed as it might be misinterpreted by some. It will be discussed internally,” he said.
When questioned about speculations that PAS blamed PKR for the party’s poor showing in the 13th general election, Khalid rubbished such claims, saying that a defeat must first be analysed before coming up with such simplistic assumptions.
“Pakatan’s defeat in Kedah has nothing to do with calling for this review of ties. Although we lost there, we won a bigger majority in other areas. The only shortcoming in Kedah is that we failed to manage Umno’s strong seats,” he said.
On a separate matter, Khalid reiterated the party’s stand that it would not leave Pakatan and join Umno.
